Louisville Institute 2023 Project Grant for Researchers

Awards Announced

Dr. Amy Lawton, Chaplaincy Innovation Lab Postdoctoral Researcher

The Louisville Institute is pleased to announce Dr. Amy Lawton of Brandeis University (Northampton, MA) as a recipient of a 2023 Project Grant for Researchers for the project titled “Queer Calls to Chaplaincy.”

The Project Grant for Researchers (PGR) supports significant academic and pastoral research about Christian faith and life, practices of ministry, and/or religious institutions and organizations. Grants of up to $30,000 support independent study, consultations, or collaboration between pastors and academics. Preference is given to projects that show potential to generate reliable new data through empirical methods of inquiry and discovery.

“The recipients of the 2022 Project Grants for Researchers reflect some of the most exciting and creative work being done in the study of North American Christianity,” says Rev. Dr. Aimee C. Moiso, the Institute’s associate director. “We expect that this year’s cohort of PGR grantees will make significant contributions to their fields.”

Louisville Institute is funded by the Religion Division of Lilly Endowment Inc. and based at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (Louisville, Kentucky). The Louisville Institute’s mission is to bridge Church and academy through awarding grants and fellowships to those who study North American religious institutions, practices, and movements, and thereby promoting scholarship that strengthens Church, academy, society, and contributes to the flourishing of the Church.
