What a Chaplain Looks Like

Keisuke Lee-Miyaki

Rev. Keisuke Lee-Miyaki

Chaplain – Sojourn Chaplaincy

Keisuke was born and grew up in Japan. Ordained in 2006 and worked at Hongwanji and at a family temple founded in 1598. Following my great grandfather, who was an Issei Buddhist minister who crossed oceans a century ago, he earned a Master’s in Shin-Buddhist Studies from Ryukoku University and trained in Clinical Pastoral Education at CPMC and UCSF. Now, he researches chaplaincy through the lens of marginalized religious/cultural communities. As a gay Asian immigrant, he advocates for LGBTQ+ and HIV awareness with a Buddhist twist—because ancient traditions can evolve with a bit of rainbow light. 🌈
He loves playing stats games, reading mangas, and playing piano and trombone. Languages: Japanese, English, tourist-level Spanish and Mandarin.
