Profiles in Chaplaincy Education

Jawad Bayat is a spiritual care educator, currently in the final phase of becoming an ACPE Certified Educator. He will be the fourth ACPE Certified Educator who is Muslim and the first Afghani-American.

Rev. David Fleenor, BCC is Director of Education for the Center for Spirituality and Health at Mount Sinai in New York, as well as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Education at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Victor Gabriel is Master of Divinity Program Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the Buddhist Chaplaincy Department at the University of the West.

Shareda Hosein is a Muslim chaplain, public speaker, consultant, and retired lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves. She served as a chaplain at Tufts University and is a founding member of the Association of Muslim Chaplains.

Rev. Dr. Langston joined the faculty of Columbia International University’s Seminary & School of Ministry in 2011 and has taught Chaplain Ministries since then. Before coming to Columbia, he served as pastor of a congregation in North Carolina, law enforcement chaplain, and United States Navy chaplain. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College.

Rabbi Rochelle Robins is the Vice President, Dean of the Chaplaincy School, and Director of Clinical Pastoral Education at the Academy for Jewish Religion California. She works with the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab on the Educating Effective Chaplains project identifying the key competencies and teaching methods for training the next generation of chaplains.

Dr. Elaine Yuen is former Chair of the Wisdom Traditions Department and Professor at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. Currently retired, she continues to teach and write on pastoral caregiving (chaplaincy), contemplative education and Buddhist studies. She hails from Philadelphia where she was an associate professor, researcher, and interfaith chaplain at Thomas Jefferson University.

Nora Zaki is Advisor for Muslim Student Life at Vassar College. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Arabic, Religion, and Political Science at the University of Florida in 2013 and a Masters in Divinity from The University of Chicago in 2017. She has served as a chaplain at Dominican University in Chicago and was a volunteer chaplain at the Cook County (IL) Jail and worked as a chaplain at Tampa General Hospital.
