
Varun Soni
Varun Soni serves as the Vice Provost for Campus Wellness and Crisis Intervention and the Dean of Religious Life of USC. The mission of the Office of Campus Wellness and Crisis Intervention is to ensure that USC is at the forefront of effective mental health and wellness education, harm-reduction initiatives, and prevention and intervention strategies for all members of the USC community. In Soni’s role as Vice Provost, he leads the advancement of wellness and provides training for faculty and staff on issues of student mental health. He additionally coordinates crisis response with the Department of Public Safety and Fire Safety and Emergency Planning, and coordinates USC’s Threat Management Team along with the Department of Public Safety.
Soni also serves as Dean of Religious Life of USC. In this role, he brings together the spiritual and scholarly resources of the university, provides moral and ethical leadership for the USC community, and works closely with the 90 student religious groups and the 40 religious directors on campus. He also oversees interfaith engagement and community service initiatives, organizes interdisciplinary events that explore religion broadly conceived, and leads ceremonial and memorial events.
