Chaplaincy Innovation Lab co-founder Wendy Cadge, along with Sara Paasche-Orlow (Hebrew SeniorLife), Rev. Mary Martha Thiel (Hebrew SeniorLife), Qiang Zhang (Brandeis University), Julia Bandini (Brandeis University), and Carol Damm (Brandeis University) recently concluded the project “Training Spiritual Care Generalists.” With funding from the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation, the team trained a cohort of nearly 75 “spiritual generalists” for 3,000 older patients; those caregivers can now provide preliminary spiritual care in the absence of a professional chaplain. The team has a paper under review for journal publication and will present a poster at the 2018 Gerontological Society of America Annual Meeting.
