Spiritual Care with LGBT Older Adults

Date: November 5, 2020
Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am

Join on November 5th for a virtual conference on Spiritual Care of LGBT Elders, appropriate for chaplaincy students and chaplains. Participants will engage with diverse learning modalities including small group conversations, a short film, and a verbatim. The keynote speaker will be Hali Diecidue, Hebrew SeniorLife’s Senior Staff Chaplain and an expert in spiritual care of LGBT elders.

  • The conference will engage with questions such as:
  • What are important connections between sexuality and spirituality?
  • How does a care receiver’s LGBTQ + identity impact a chaplain’s approach to providing
    effective spiritual care?
  • How can chaplains recognize and address implicit bias around sexuality, gender, and age?
  • How are the normal challenges of aging amplified for LGBT adults?

Prior to the workshop, participants are asked to (1) watch a short video about LGBT elders: Full Story: Back in the Closet  and (2) do a Project Implicit bias assessment online [take either the Transgender IAT, the Sexuality IAT, or the Age IAT]

The conference is co-sponsored by Hebrew SeniorLife CPE Center, Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, and
ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education.
