Spiritual Care within Long Term Care: Supporting those More Vulnerable during the Pandemic

Rabbi Sara Paasche-Orlow, BCC, serves as the Director of Spiritual Care at Hebrew SeniorLife in Boston, and Chair of the HSL Ethics Committee. She is a co-founder of the HSL Chaplaincy Institute, focused on spiritual care and aging, dementia, LGBTQ aging, and end of life. Sara is the co-author, with Rabbi Joel Baron, of Deathbed Wisdom of the Hasidic Masters: The Book of Departures and Caring for People at the End of Life, Jewish Lights Publishing, 2016.

Jana Troutman-Miller, BCC serves as chaplain and Episcopal priest at Saint John’s on the Lake, a retirement community in Milwaukee, WI where she is also the co-chair of the annual Saint John’s Symposium on Spirituality and Aging. Jana is a trained spiritual director and is on the teaching faculty of the Haden Institute for Spiritual Direction in Ontario, Canada. BCCI board certified since 2004, Jana co-chaired the Integrated Standards of Practice for Professional Chaplains Task Force and currently serves on the Board of Directors for APC, where she chaired the Professional Ethics Committee, is on the Quality and Research Committee, and is the current chair of the BCCI Commission on Certification.

Judith Holmes-Jensen is a Chaplain and ordained Presbyterian (PC(USA)) minister at 2 Ascension Living Skilled Care nursing facilities in the Milwaukee and Brookfield area where she serves as the Mission and Values Chair, the local Embedded Ethics Resource Contact and a member of the system Ethics Committee Team. Judi also serves as a member of the Ascension Living Spiritual Care Advisory Committee for Ascension Living. In the community, Judi works on the planning committee for the annual South East Wisconsin Grief Network Bereavement Workshop and has recently become a member of the Hospice-Palliative Spiritual Care Research network. She has additional specialized training and certification in Palliative Care, CISM, Bereavement/RTS and End of Life and Conflict Mediation.
