What a Chaplain Looks Like

Alyssa Adreani, MA, BCC

I’ve been a hospital chaplain for 10 years, each year a little or a lot different from the year before.

Whether it is companioning a grieving family, blessing a baby, sharing a prayer of gratitude for recuperation, supporting staff after a traumatic event, or just offering a ‘compassionate less anxious presence’, each day is an invitation for me to seek and find grace and gratitude right here in front of me, and maybe invite someone else to crack open the door to do so, also.

Hearing and holding the stories of others, being present, and honoring each unique individual – this is my sacred obligation.

I wouldn’t trade this job for the world! Thanks, Chaplaincy Innovation Lab!!
