Rev. Bernadette Amistoso-Morales
Staff Chaplain – Overlook Medical Center, Atlantic Health System
I am an ordained minister who is currently a hospital chaplain in New Jersey. My first career was a medical surgical nurse in the Philippines before I pursued formal theological training at the Union Theological Seminary, Philippines with special focus on Christian Education and Family Ministries. Throughout my ministerial career, I served as parish minister, university chaplain, workplace chaplain and executive director for a non-profit organization. I wrote a children’s book entitled “Berna and Her Backpack” which is a personal story of hope, resilience and community. It’s based on our family’s experience of losing everything to a devastating fire in 2018 when we were just on our 6th month in the US. My chaplaincy practice is shaped and informed by my personal experience as an immigrant clergy and a fire survivor who is reflecting on what it means to provide care and hospitality to those who often feel displaced, overwhelmed and unseen in the face of difficult situations in the hospital setting.
