What a Chaplain Looks Like

Ellen Corcella

Ellen Corcella, BCC

Palliative Care Chaplain, Eskenazi Health, Indianapolis

As a hospital Chaplain, I care for patients and families on the worst days of their lives; I became a minster and chaplain after 20 years as a New York City prosecutor. I have learned to embrace my own trauma, to stop trying to fix things, and, instead offer myself as one human being to another. I approach others through a trauma-informed and strengths-based lens and believe we are more resilient, stronger in spirit and richer in love than we credit ourselves. I write about the intersection of faith and resilience at my personal website. An ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ; received my Masters in Divinity & Theological Studies from Christian Theological Seminary; and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
