What a Chaplain Looks Like

Katie Tunks Leach

Katie Tunks Leach, RN

Emergency Responder Chaplain, Canberra, Australia

After gaining my nursing registration in 1997, I specialised in emergency and trauma nursing where I found my passion for walking alongside and caring for others during their very worst days. In 2018 I also became a Volunteer Chaplain (Ecumenical) for the New South Wales Ambulance Service in Australia, where I provide spiritual and pastoral care to paramedics in their day-to-day work, and at the scene of significant call-outs. I am currently completing my PhD at the University of Technology Sydney with a research focus exploring the role and value of chaplains in the ambulance service. In real life I am a keen hiker, knitter, gardener, baker, reader, and mum to 2 teenage girls, cats and chooks.
