Rev. Monica Sanford, PhD
Rev. Dr. Monica Sanford is one of only two Buddhists in the U.S. to lead a religious life department on a college campus.
She spends her days reviewing kosher guidelines with Dining Services, using Marvel memes to explain Greek mythology, talking to architecture students about the design principles of Christian labyrinths, performing suicide intervention over text message, and figuring out how to teach mindfulness meditation in American Sign Language.
Trained at Buddhist, Christian, and Jewish seminaries, Rev. Dr. Sanford is an administrator, scholar, chaplain, and avid advocate for the needs of secular students as well as religious communities.
