What a Chaplain Looks Like

Racquel Ray on THIS is what a chaplain looks like

Racquel R. Ray, MDiv

Chaplain, John Clarke Retirement and Nursing Center

As a nursing and retirement center Chaplain I accompany residents, staff and families through aging and dying with compassion. I hold sacred space, honor our Veterans, and support staff wellness.

At the start of the pandemic, I felt called to be among the vulnerable. Residents are isolated from loved ones. Staff are stretched to their fullest. Families are wracked with worry. I help others find hope amidst challenge.

I completed MDiv in May 2020 after 25 years of church ministry. This art of Chaplaincy is a nuanced balance of listening and responding. Each day more rewarding than the last.
