Michael Skaggs, PhD

Director of Programs

Michael Skaggs, PhD is Director of Programs and a co-founder of the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab. He directs the Lab’s education, professional development, and networking initiatives. He is also the host, producer, and publisher of the Lab’s public-facing work. He sits on the Advisory Committee of Transforming Chaplaincy and the Advisory Board of the U.S. Army Chaplain Corps Journal.

Trained at the University of Notre Dame as a historian of American religion, Michael has a particular interest in interfaith dialogue and serves in innovative theological education programs. His work has appeared in Sociology of ReligionInternational Journal of Maritime History, American Catholic Studies, U.S. Catholic HistorianBooks & Culture, and elsewhere. He previously worked as Communications Director for Transforming Chaplaincy and Director of Programs for the North American Maritime Ministry Association.
