Denver prison chaplain reflects on decades of service
From Elise Schmelzer at the Denver Post:
In his 31st year with the Denver Sheriff Department, Cannon is one of the jail’s biggest celebrities. Known as “Chap” in the halls and pods of the downtown jail, Cannon estimated that he’s helped more than 7,000 people in one-on-one conversations over the nine years he’s held the job, and countless more in the years he worked as a deputy.
“My main job is to give people hope and inspire them — to help them dream again,” he said. “I try to be a light in darkness.”
